SLR5 New BAND EX Sal La Rocca

Sal La Rocca, living bass legend from Liège, has formed a new band called SLR5. Alongside Sal, we find two 'new faces': Mayaan Smith on tenor saxophone and Umberto Odone on drums. These two musicians, recently arrived in Brussels, quickly impressed with their enthusiasm, technique, and energy.

On piano, we have the incomparable Igor Gehenot.

Phil Abraham, also a legendary figure on trombone, joins the band, adding beautiful textures that accentuate Sal La Rocca's compositions.

Sal arranged and composed modern and fresh pieces firmly rooted in the great bebop and melodic tradition. Live, it sounds virtuosic, warm, funky, and decidedly optimistic, entirely in Sal's style.

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting and talented jazz bands of 2024.

Members: Sal La Rocca (double bass), Phil Abraham (trombone), Igor Gehenot (piano), Mayaan Smith (saxophone), and Umberto Odone (drums).
